On Learning Things About Your Doctor…That You’d Rather. NOT. Know.

Lucky me…pregnant for the first time at the ripe old age of 30…this was 27 years ago and I’m trying to remember who it was that referred me to my OB/GYN…probably our family doctor, who was also my father in law’s best friend. Great guy…so anyway, he referred me to an OB/GYN. I had a high-risk pregnancy, and since I was 30 anyway, it was felt that a Specialist would be prudent. I liked the doctor. Seemed like a great guy too. Deacon of his church. Member of a prayer group to which my family doctor also belonged.

After my daughter was born, after my hemorrhage, McDonald’s Cerclage and FOUR months of bedrest, I woke up one morning to the headlines in the paper: DOCTOR SO AND SO ACCUSED OF RAPE. Oh. Yes. It turned out that at the same time he was so carefully shepherding me through my very difficult pregnancy, he was also raping some of his patients. Thankfully, I was not one of them…He was tried and convicted of rape and served most of his prison sentence. So there you have it. Things About Your Doctor…That You’d. RATHER. NOT. KNOW…
