So I have an oral presentation in my German 432 class on Tuesday…tomorrow…
|Edvard Munch The Scream (1893)
Yes, I am actually a German major at the University of Alaska Anchorage. I am also majoring in wheelthrown ceramics, with a minor in history. I have an Associate of Art in ceramics from Grossmont College in San Diego, California (YAY Balboa Park, the San Diego Zoo and ALL the beaches…). My educational journey has been anything but a straight line, and forget about the whole “finish in four years” nonsense. My two year degree at Grossmont took me three years…and my ‘four year’ Bachelor of Art has so far taken me…let’s see…1981-1983, then 2010-present(ish)…pretty much blew the whole ‘finish in four’ thing right out of the water, much to the dismay of the administration here at UAA. I keep getting nastygrams from UAA to the effect that I have WAAAAAAAYYYYY too many credits, which is true…and my grades haven’t always been Dean’s List-worthy…forget about Chancellor’s List! However, I am a great advocate for taking your own sweet time about getting a degree (if you can afford to – and I can!), and of following your passion, if that is something that you’re free to do. Being an older returning student has a lot to do with my attitude. Plus I have the luxury of a supportive husband, which allows me the freedom to thumb my nose at the administration and take my own sweet time about getting the degree that I want, in the time frame that I choose.
Mind you, none of these musings are getting any studying done…but I am the Queen of Procrastination….toodles!
